Spirit of the Wild

The Spirit of the Wild project was initiated to allow the true soul of nature to reveal herself to tourists visiting national parks and reserves.

The Spirit of the Wild project was initiated by Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld with the purpose of embellishing the ecological skills of field guides, teachers and managers of South African National Parks and wilderness areas, and to allow their capacity for a deeper connection to develop in their work with tourists. Her intention is to provide people with the opportunity to re-connect with the non-human values in nature and to cultivate an awareness of the intrinsic value of all life.

The project has been designed specifically for field guides, employees and management of South African national parks but also caters for school and university teachers and educators who want to dedicate themselves/are excited about sharing their inner knowledge and experience of wilderness with other people. The result for many is that this can result in a life-changing experience for both the visitors as well as the field guides who have come to experience the Spirit of the Wild project.

The course ‘Intuitive Guide’ is divided in modules over a period of one year and is facilitated at Bergplaas Nature Reserve.
